Kate
Buckley, a ninth generation Kentucky native, currently
lives in Laguna Beach, California. She was educated
at Transylvania University and the University of Kentucky,
and has served as the Executive Vice President for Castello
Cities Internet Network since 1998.
Kate Buckley's poems have appeared or are forthcoming
in a variety of journals including: The Heartland
Review, New Southerner, The North American Review, Slipstream,
and Spillway, and in the book, Tide Pools,
an Anthology of Orange County Poetry. Her first
book A Wild Region: Poems
& Paintings was recently released by Moon
Tide Press, and a second book, Follow Me Down,
is forthcoming from Tebot Bach. Prizes and awards include:
2007 Joy Bale Boone Poetry Prize (finalist), 2007
Gabehart Prize for Imaginative Writing for poetry, 2008
Oregon State Poetry Association Contest (3rd place),
2008 Green River Writers Contest for poetry (3rd place),
and the 2008 North American Review's James Hearst
Poetry Prize, selected by Molly Peacock.
Kate
is a long standing member of Laguna Poets, founder of
Women Poets of Laguna, and conducts
workshops in and around Laguna Beach including a monthly
workshop for the Orange County Writers Group. She also
does one-on-one poetry mentoring as well as teaches
a weekly reading and literacy class (assisted by her
dog - and Delta Society certified Pet Partner -
Murphy) at the Laguna Beach Boys and Girls Club.
A classically trained painter, Kate's paintings
are privately collected and have been published in journals
such as The Adirondack Review and purchased
by such entities as The American Institute of Certified
Public Accountants (Board of Directors Invitation
2005). Her paintings are available for purchase and
she currently accepts commissions.
A member of the National
League of American Pen Women (in both Arts and Letters),
Kate resides in a 1960's beach bungalow with her husband
and three unruly dogs.
